We focus on washed kaolin, but sometimes customers also asked the calcined kaolin, today let us learn the difference between washed and calcined kaolin together !

1) Wha is kaolin?

kaolin is a non-metallic mineral. It is a clay and caly rock dominated by  kaolinite caly minerals. Because it is white and delicate, it is also called dolomite.

Pure kaolin is white and delicate, soft and soft, with good plasticity and fire resistance. Its mineral composition is mainly composed of kaolinite, halloysite, hydromica, illite, montmorillonite and quartz, feldspar and other minerals.

Kaolin is widely used, maily for papermaking, ceramics and refractory materials, followed by coatings, rubber fillers, enamel glazes and white cement  raw materials, and a small amount of plastics, paints, pigments, grinding wheels, pencils, etc.

2) What is the difference between washed kaolin and calcined kaolin?

The calcined kaolin is calcined , the crystal from and the original soil have been changed, and the washed kaolin is only physical treatment, and does not change the original soil properties.

The degree of whiteness is relatively large. Generally, the whitness of kaolin will increase after light burining, and washing will not  significantly increase the degree of whiteness.

The calcined kaolin is mainly reffered to as hard kaolin(coal kaolin), and the original soil has no cohensivess. Can not be used directly as a raw material for paper or refractory materials. After calcination, the original soil of the washed kaolin has cohnesiveness and can be directly used as a raw material for paper or refractory materials. After calcination, the original soil of the washed kaolin has cohensiveness and can be directly used as a refractory binder or a paper filler.

As a paper making filler, the degree of whiteness has a lot of calories.
